Seville becomes a haven for Vanguard, who agrees to leave a volunteer training force behind. Pavel, Artem, and Michael Zander agree to stay, though Zander has other motivations. Phyllis is pregnant with their first child after all, making a desk job more attractive.

Evidence of the hand of The Client reappears, however, leading to the creation of an A.I. masked Rogue fleet to initiate the first open attack of Mercenary resources ever recorded. Thousands of Mercenaries are destroyed as they sleep, many active groups eliminated overnight. Earth Fed is now pulled out of its slumber as Mercenaries talk of open rebellion, the Rogue fleet leading all on a grand chase throughout the Galaxy.

Though pulled from many directions, Michael Zander answers the call, leading to a destiny that may surprise him.
