Michael Zander is a respected hero of the mercenary group Vanguard, and of the late Dark War. Zander paid a dear cost to win this war, locking him into a cycle of grief, confusion and pain. Seemingly also trapped by orders, he is likewise beset by a foe possessing skill and focus he has never before encountered. He rides to meet his foe regardless, receiving unexpected aid from an unlikely source.
