Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger
Her Fearful Symmetry is a horror novel by the American writer Audrey Niffenegger. The book was published on October 1, 2009[1] and is set in London's Highgate Cemetery where, after a year of research for the book, Niffenegger acted as a tour guide.[2]
Title
The novel's title is inspired by William Blake's poem "The Tyger",[3] which begins "Tyger! Tyger! burning bright / In the forests of the night, / What immortal hand or eye / Could frame thy fearful symmetry?".
Given the novel's setting, some critics have also pointed out a potential verbal pun in the novel's title, since in received pronunciation"symmetry" and "cemetery" are almost homophonous.[4] There is also a physical symmetry between two of the main characters – identical twins with mirrored internal organs.
